The Pocketalker Ultra amplifies sounds closest to the listener while reducing background noise, making it easier to follow one-on-one conversations, small group discussions, and television audio. It works with or without hearing aids and is compatible with neckloops for T-Coil hearing aid users. The omnidirectional microphone picks up sound from the immediate environment, and the 3.5mm microphone jack allows an external mic to be connected for more directed pickup.

The 200-hour battery life on two AAA alkaline batteries is a practical advantage in facility settings where devices may be in near-continuous use across multiple shifts. The low battery indicator on the top panel flashes red when batteries need replacing, keeping staff aware without interrupting use.
